RAEMS is going to China with
the Wilderness Medical Society
Well, it looks like our very own Brian P will be heading to Beijing,
Xi-an, Guilin, and Shanghai, China. He will be there as part of the Wilderness Medical Society's
Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Wilderness Medicine Delegation. Brian was invited to be part of this delegation
by the chief executive officer of the Wilderness Medical Society, Loren W.
Greenway, Ph. D.
Delegates will be given a Professional Overview concerning the
status and delivery of pulmonary, critical care, and wilderness medicine in
China.
The professional program will focus on:
Wilderness, pulmonary, and critical care medicine:
Acute mountain sickness, including high-altitude cerebral and
pulmonary edema, preventative measures, and treatment options
Hypothermia, including cardiac abnormality, preventative
measures, and treatment options
Frostbite and other cold weather injuries
Wild animal attacks
Dive medicine and hyperbaric medicine
Needless to say, this is
quite an honour...albeit a costly one...
Though an official symposium the trip will
incur a cost of approximately $5,700 USD. Delegates have been informed that
requesting community support may be of assistance. If you would like to
assist in the funding for this international event, please feel free to submit
your donation below. All donations will be acknowledged. Updates, a "
field notebook" and photos of this unique experience will
appear here upon Brian's return, along with signed copies being sent to
supporters.
